Master blockmaker

Master craftsman carving the block in wood

 Carving tools

The process of block printing involves applying color to an intricately carved teak wood block and pressing it firmly and steadily to the fabric. The blocks are pressed over and over again depending on how many colors and designs are in the print.

Gunta Stölzl- Master weaver of the Bauhaus

Gunta Stolzl (1897-1983) was the only woman to teach at the Bauhaus, the twentieth century's most important school of design, architecture and art. As the Bauhaus’s only female master she created enormous change within the weaving department as it transitioned from individual pictorial works to modern industrial designs.

Conflict kitchen!

The project is an idea by three artists, John Peña, Jon Rubin, and Dawn Weleski. Every four months, they'll pick a new country and hawk its cuisine out of a jerry-rigged stand in Pittsburgh's East Liberty neighborhood. The first iteration, Kubideh Kitchen, serves a single dish: a ground-beef sandwich, with onions, sesame seeds, basil, and mint stuffed inside homemade barbari bread. Mmmmm.
